Natural Sciences

The natural sciences, spanning physics, chemistry, math and statistical sciences, play a central role in leading university initiatives at ASU. Interdisciplinary research centers at ASU serve as research accelerators, offering a range of collaborative studies and rich learning opportunities for K-12 students, undergraduates and educators throughout the nation.

Mathematics and statistical sciences at ASU is truly a vibrant community of scholars who are learning about and solving some of the most interesting theoretical and applied mathematical problems of our time and mentoring the next generation of leaders. Along with ASU's School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences and School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, associated ASU centers, faculty, students and staff serve thousands of undergraduates each year, providing quality instruction and mentorship.

ASU faculty in the School of Molecular Sciences and Department of Physics are among the finest researchers, teachers and mentors in the field today, ranked 6th in research impact. The faculty include fellows of prestigious science organizations such as the National Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Physical Society and the American Chemical Society, Regents Professors, noted authors and some nationally recognized for research in science education. In addition to outstanding faculty, dedicated staff work to support research and teaching at every level.

ASU faculty and students tackle some of the most challenging chemical physics problems of today, combining theory, spectroscopy, cosmology, nuclear and particle physics, biological physics, synthesis, molecular biology and geochemistry to forge fundamental understandings of the world. ASU researchers look through the lens of physics, as well as biology, to understand cancer, and toward biological invention and biomimicry to develop advanced materials.

Math, chemistry and physics are at the frontier of breakthrough scientific and technological approaches and analyses.
